Who is behind these reviews

A bench, a meter, and no reason to flatter anyone.

SirenPicks exists because the intimate wellness category is full of lists that have never touched the product. We are small, we are named, and we publish the measurements underneath the verdict — including when our own device line loses.

We don't sell the products we review. Ever. · Are you a brand? Put your device on our bench →

SirenPicks is an independent review desk for intimate wellness devices. We are not a shop, we are not a brand's content arm, and no manufacturer owns or edits this site. We buy or borrow devices, run them through one published protocol, and report what the instruments said — including when the answer is "don't buy this".

We are small on purpose. A small desk that tests ten devices properly is worth more to a buyer than a large one that rewrites a hundred spec sheets. Everything we publish carries a named author and a date.

Who is behind SirenPicks?

Two named testers and one published protocol. Mara Ellison runs the bench and writes the device verdicts; Dr. Lena Ortiz, a polymer scientist, runs the material verification that decides whether a device is allowed on the site at all. There is no anonymous house byline, and no score, verdict or measurement is machine-generated.

  • Mara Ellison — senior tester and editor. Ten years reviewing intimate wellness hardware. Accountable for every device verdict and every star rating.
  • Dr. Lena Ortiz — materials contributor, PhD in polymer science. Accountable for every body-safety and material claim.
  • Funded by affiliate commission on some outbound links, and our own device line. Neither can buy a score, a ranking or a placement.
  • Our conflict, stated up front: we own SirenPicks, so we label every own-brand pick and test it on the identical protocol. Read the ownership policy.

Why this site exists

The category is drowning in affiliate spam: the same three paragraphs, the same five products, rewritten across hundreds of pages that have never touched the device. Buyers have learned to distrust the entire category as a result. SirenPicks exists to be the opposite of that — a bench, a meter, a timer, a published method, and a verdict that sometimes says no.

Contract testers support the bench for high-volume periods. Any review published under a contract tester's name carries that tester's name and experience on the article itself; nothing is published under a generic house byline.

How to verify us — without taking our word for it

A trust page that only asks you to trust it is worth very little. Every claim below is checkable from this site, and we would rather you checked than believed:

How we make money — the whole list

Two sources, and neither one can buy an outcome:

  • Affiliate commission. Some outbound links to retailers may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The score is set before a link exists, and affiliate links are disclosed at the top of the article.
  • Our own SirenPicks device line. We own it. It is tested on the same bench as everything else, labelled wherever it appears, and we publish the conflict on every page — see the ownership policy.

We do not run display advertising, we do not sell sponsored posts, and we do not accept payment for a score, a ranking or a placement. Brand partnerships are limited to independent testing and data licensing, both described on the For Brands page.

If you are here to buy something

The useful thing about knowing who writes this is that you can decide how much weight to give it. If you have decided to trust the measurements, start with the constraint that actually applies to you — not with a brand name:

Testing tells you how a device performs; it cannot tell you what fits your life. That part is a conversation, and it is free — we do not sell anything, so there is nothing to upsell you.

How we got here

  • 2024

SirenPicks starts as a testing bench, not a shop. The first rule written down: no paid placements, ever.

  • 2025

The five-criterion protocol is fixed and the scoring weights are published for the first time, so scores stay comparable year to year.

  • 2026

Roundups are rebuilt around reader constraints — noise, budget, shared use — instead of around product categories.

What we are not good at

Worth stating plainly, because a trust page that only lists strengths is not a trust page:

  • Fit is personal. We can measure noise, battery and material. We cannot measure whether a shape suits your body, and we will not pretend a number covers it.
  • Our catalogue is small. A deliberately short list is a feature, not an oversight, but it does mean we often cannot answer "what about brand X" yet.
  • Some ownership conflict is permanent. We own SirenPicks. We manage it by disclosure and identical testing, not by claiming it does not exist.
  • We are not clinicians. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and we say so rather than hedging every sentence.

For media, researchers and partners

If you are here in a professional capacity rather than as a buyer, the useful things we offer are verification and citation — not coverage.

01

Verify a number

Check any published measurement against the protocol and the weights. If you think a figure is wrong, send it and we will re-run or correct it.

  • The full five-criterion protocol and conditions
  • The published scoring weights, unchanged since launch
  • The correction route and response targets
02

Cite our data

Our measurements are attributable and dated, so you can quote them without inheriting a marketing claim.

  • Named author and test date on every review
  • Method link you can reference alongside the figure
  • Structured data so the citation resolves to the right entity
03

License the dataset or submit a device

Retailers, marketplaces and brands can license structured measurements or submit a device for the identical protocol.

  • Measured dataset with the method attached
  • No pay-to-rank: the verdict stays ours
  • Terms and process on the For Brands page

How to hold us to it

If you think a score is wrong, a disclosure is missing, or a claim on this site does not match a measurement, tell us — corrections are prioritised over every other kind of message. The corrections policy and the complaints route are on the editorial policy, and everything we publish about ourselves is collected in the Trust Centre.

Questions about who writes this — and how we make money

These are the questions readers ask when they want to know whether a recommendation can be trusted, answered directly.

Who writes the reviews on SirenPicks?

Two named testers, with contract testers supporting the bench at busy periods. Mara Ellison is the senior tester and editor, accountable for device verdicts and star ratings. Dr. Lena Ortiz, a polymer scientist, runs material verification and is accountable for body-safety claims. Every article carries its author; there is no anonymous house byline on this site.

Is SirenPicks really independent if you own a device brand?

We own the SirenPicks device line, which is a genuine conflict of interest, and we handle it by disclosure rather than by denial. Ownership is stated in the footer of every page, every SirenPicks pick is labelled as ours, own-brand devices run the identical five-criterion protocol at the same published weights as every competitor, competitors are listed first where they win on a weighted criterion, and you can ask us for the best non-SirenPicks device for your needs.

How does SirenPicks make money?

Two ways: affiliate commission on some outbound links to retailers, and our own device line. We do not run display advertising, we do not sell sponsored posts or placements, and we do not accept payment for a score, a ranking or a review. Brand and retail engagements are limited to independent testing and data licensing.

Can a brand pay for a better review?

No. There is no mechanism for it. Scores come from the weighted test results and the weights are published, so any inconsistency is checkable. A brand can pay for bench time and a licence to cite the resulting data; it cannot buy the verdict that comes out of that bench time.

Do you test devices that brands send you, and do you say so?

Yes on both counts. Some devices are bought at retail, some are supplied for review, and when a device was supplied the article says so. A supplied unit runs the same protocol at the same weights and can receive a negative score — several have.

How do you handle mistakes?

We correct them in place and date the change rather than deleting the error. Correction requests go through the contact page and are prioritised over other messages; we aim to acknowledge within two working days and resolve within ten. A review that cannot be supported by its measurements is retracted, and the page says so.

What is SirenPicks not good at?

Fit. We can measure noise, battery, material safety, cleaning durability and value, but we cannot measure whether a shape suits your body, and we will not invent a number to cover it. Our catalogue is also deliberately small, so we often cannot yet answer "what about brand X". And nothing here is medical advice.

How can I verify the things on this page?

Every claim is checkable from the site itself: match review scores against the published weights on the How We Test page, look for the ownership statement in any page footer, check that supplied devices are disclosed on their articles, and open the privacy page to confirm that no Google tag is requested before you allow it. We would rather you verified than believed.

Who is behind these picks — read this before you buy

We own the SirenPicks device line, and SirenPicks products currently top several of our roundups. That is exactly the kind of conflict a review site should put in front of you, so here it is, in full.

  • They are labelled. Every SirenPicks pick carries an "ours" marker in the roundup and in the face-off, so you never have to guess who made it.
  • They are measured the same way. Same decibel meter, same 30 cm, same battery drain, same material check, same published scoring weights as every competitor.
  • They lose sometimes. Where a competitor beats a SirenPicks device on a weighted criterion, the competitor is listed first and the reason is stated.
  • You have options. If you would rather buy from a third party entirely, ask us and we will name the best non-SirenPicks option we have tested for your constraint.

Ask us anything

A named tester answers, not a funnel.

Tell us the constraint that applies to you — thin walls, a first purchase, a long-distance relationship, a tight budget — and you get a specific recommendation with the measurement behind it. It is free, and there is nothing to buy on this site.
